Peter & the Wolf

|Prokofiev's traditional score performed by the WSO and for the first time a jazz version of the same music by the New England Jazz Ensemble directed by Walter Gwardyak with Saint-SaŽns's best-known works featuring two pianos with Fabio and Gisele Witkowski.
Saint-SaŽns' Carnival of the Animals and Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf will be featured at the Wallingford Symphony Orchestraís Fridayís evening performance. Prokofiev's traditional composition will be performed by the symphony and narrated by Mayor William Dickinson. A jazz composition of Peter and the Wolf will be premiered by the New England Jazz Ensemble. Saint-SaŽns's best-known works, will feature two pianos with Fabio and Gisele Witkowski, for a return engagement at the Paul Mellon Arts Center on the Choate Rosemary Hall campus.
The concert is dedicated to Fred Ulbrich, a jazz lover and friend of the symphony.
The Wallingford Symphony consists of a 48-piece ensemble of professional musicians, led by musical director Philip Ventre. The orchestra is celebrating its 40th season, performing throughout the year. A portion of Fridayís performance will be played before Wallingford school children, during school hours on Friday.
The New England Jazz Ensemble is a jazz orchestra comprising regionally based artists. The group features original and contemporary jazz arrangements and compositions. Much of the bandís material is generated by the ensembleís members and is led by musical director, Walt Gwardyak.
